Marli’s Story

Our youngest Emma Lazarus Legacy Member, Marli, sent in this explanation of why she decided to commit some of her Bat Mitzvah donations to HIAS Pennsylvania and the Fund:

I would like to help HIAS Pennsylvania by giving money and my time because it helps refugees from all over the world who came to the United States. HIAS Pennsylvania helps them find jobs and homes, and teaches them English. It also helps the refugees connect with one another, and tries to make them feel comfortable, physically and emotionally, in their new homes. HIAS Pennsylvania recognizes that being a refugee and moving to America is scary, and it tries to make refugees feel safe and less lonely. For these reasons, I feel that HIAS Pennnsylvania is a remarkable organization that I am proud to help.
