Asha Ramachandran, Esq.
With more than 30 years of experience practicing law and with her trilingual capability, Asha prides herself on providing high quality legal representation to her clients. As a general practitioner in Sri Lanka and as a public interest attorney in the United States specializing in federal and Pennsylvania public benefits and immigration law, Asha has strengthened and stabilized the lives of hundreds of clients through her zealous advocacy and successful representation.
Prior to joining HIAS Pennsylvania in April 2023, Asha worked as Director of Administration at SeniorLAW Center, Victims of Crime (VOCA) Program Manager at Pennsylvania Health Law Project, Staff Attorney and later Deputy Managing Attorney at the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania, and as a Paralegal at Community Legal Services while waiting to be admitted to the Pennsylvania bar after her immigration to the United States.
Asha’s passion is empowering clients, case managers, and social workers with the information they need to thrive. She has provided statewide training to HIV case managers and social workers on federal and state public benefits. Additionally, she has presented at PLAN, PCDVA, Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association annual conferences, and conducted statewide training for victim service organizations on Medicaid. She authored the HIV/AIDS Advocacy Manual on Public Benefits (2010, 2020 editions) for the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania in an effort to train and educate HIV case managers. As a certified Pennsylvania State Health Insurance Program (PA-MEDI) counselor, Asha has counselled many seniors and disabled individuals on their Medicare coverage and other health insurance options. She has also volunteered her time with the Homeless Advocacy Project securing disability benefits, and with the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Take Action Philly project.
