Join us on Wednesday, May 22nd, at 7:00 PM, at the Philadelphia Ethical Society, for an evening of lively music from around the world performed by Jennifer Montone of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and other professional musicians.

Musicians
Martina Adams, Horn
Horn player Martina Adams has performed with The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Florida Orchestra, the Philly POPS, the No Name Pops, and currently freelances throughout the Delaware Valley region as well as teaching privately. She is the fourth horn of Symphony in C and is a substitute musician with several regional orchestras. She toured Italy as principal horn with the Philadelphia All-City Orchestra and has performed with the multi-national classical crossover vocal group Il Divo and rock band The Bouncing Souls. Martina has appeared on FOX 29’s Good Day Philadelphia and on WRTI radio. She was accepted to the AIMS Graz in 2020 and has attended the Atlantic Brass Quintet Seminar, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Horn Workshop, Curtis Summerfest, and the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival. Martina is on faculty at the Csehy Summer School of Music and was previously employed with the Philadelphia International Music Festival as Program Director with their Orchestra and Chamber Music Intensive programs.
Martina holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Temple University, where she studied with Jeffrey Lang. She received her Master’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music where she studied with both Jennifer Montone and Jeffrey Lang. She started to play horn at age nine and studied with William Bonnell at Settlement Music School.
Rebecca (Becky) Ansel, Violin
Rebecca Ansel, DMA, violinist, has studied, taught and performed throughout the United States and in Europe. Dr. Ansel earned her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, and Master and Doctorate degrees in Violin Performance from The University of Michigan. Throughout her career, she has performed a variety of musical styles, including baroque music with the Denton Bach Society in Denton, Texas, the New York Early Music Ensemble in Ithaca, NY; contemporary music with Ensemble X, Kulmusik and the Light in Winter Festival in Ithaca, New York. Dr Ansel has taught violin at the University level since the Fall of 2001, serving as Lecturer of Violin at The Ohio State University, and as Assistant Professor of Violin at Ithaca College. In the 2009 – 2010 academic year, Dr. Ansel was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Violin at the University of Oklahoma. In addition to her teaching duties, she was also a member of the Holberg String Quartet, the Oklahoma Chamber Players, and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. She is currently living and freelancing in the Philadelphia area, where she is a member of the Philadelphia Ballet, the violinist at the Walnut Street Theater, on the Executive Board of the Local 77 Musicians’ Union, and a private instructor.
Blake Espy, Violin
Blake Espy has enjoyed a diverse career as an active recitalist and performer with several orchestras and chamber ensembles. He is a frequent substitute with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and New Jersey Symphony Orchestra among others. He is currently a member of the Philadelphia Ballet Orchestra. For four years, Blake was a violinist in the La Catrina Quartet, in residence at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. As a member of the quartet, Blake performed in over 35 states in the US and Mexico. The quartet recorded with Cuarteto Latinoamericano on the Dorian Label, which subsequently won a Latin Grammy for best classical album 2012.
Blake is also a co founder of Project 440. A Philadelphia based non profit, Project 440 engages, educates and inspires young musicians, providing them with the career and life skills they need to develop into tomorrow’s civic-minded, entrepreneurial leaders.
In 2007, Blake was invited to become a member of the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL, a professional studies orchestra whose alumni have gone on to join the ranks of professional orchestras all over the US and the world.
Jonathan Fink, Cello
Jonathan Fink was raised in Eugene, Oregon and moved to Philadelphia in 1983 to attend the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts where he studied with Lorne Munroe. Jonathan is Assistant Principal Cello in the No Name Pops as well as a contracted member of the Harrisburg Symphony. Jonathan has performed with numerous commercial acts including, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, The Who and many many more.
Jonathan is also a top producing Realtor® with Compass of Philadelphia and has been the preferred Realtor® for the music community in Philadelphia for well over a decade.
In addition to his musical endeavors, no biography of Jonathan would be complete without mentioning his passion for general aviation and humanitarian efforts. As a private pilot he frequently performs “Charity Flights”, providing free air transportation on private aircrafts to needy people facing medical challenges or having other compelling human needs.
Jonathan lives in Fishtown, his daughter Hannah recently graduated from Montclair State University with a BA in Musical Theater, his son Benjamin is job hunting after completing his college education in Health Sciences at Drexel University. Jon’s wife Marjorie is a professional musician and Vice President of the AFM local 77 in Philadelphia.
Marjorie Goldberg, Viola
Marjorie Goldberg was raised in the Philadelphia area and studied viola and music education at The Hartt School of Music in Connecticut.
For over 30 years, she has been a performer in prominent Pennsylvania orchestras and ensembles, a music educator, and an active freelancer. Marjorie is a member of the viola sections in the Harrisburg Symphony and the Philly Pops. She performs with and arranges music for Ani Kinor, a chamber ensemble at Congregation Rodeph Shalom in Philadelphia.
In 2019 Marjorie was elected to the position of Vice President of the Philadelphia Musicians’ Union, Local 77 of the American Federation of Musicians.
Jennifer Montone, Principal Horn for the Philadelphia Orchestra
Jennifer Montone joined The Philadelphia Orchestra as principal horn in 2006 and is currently on the faculties of The Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School. She was formerly the principal horn of the Saint Louis Symphony, associate principal horn of the Dallas Symphony, third horn of the New Jersey Symphony, and performer/faculty at the Aspen Music Festival and School. She was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2006 and a 2013 Grammy Award for her recording of Penderecki’s Horn Concerto entitled Winterreise. She has performed with the Berlin and New York Philharmonic Orchestras; the Cleveland, WDR Cologne, Metropolitan Opera, and National Symphony Orchestras; and the Saint Paul and Orpheus Chamber Orchestras. She appears regularly at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Classical Tahoe, La Jolla SummerFest, Strings Festival, and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and is a regular visiting coach at the New World Symphony. A native of northern Virginia, Ms. Montone studied with Edwin Thayer while in the National Symphony Fellowship Program, was a fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center, and attended the Marlboro Music Festival. She is a graduate of The Juilliard School as a student of Julie Landsmanns.
