From business, trade, and fuel prices, to immigration, to foreign policy and defense—the ripples of war in Ukraine are far-reaching and have been affecting people around the world.
The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia and KYW Newsradio, two organizations dedicated to connecting the global to the local in the Philadelphia region, are partnering to present a panel of experts who will discuss how the Russian invasion of and war in Ukraine is impacting our region here at home and the world at large. Moderated by KYW Newsradio anchor Ian Bush, this conversation will help Philadelphians understand the importance of being engaged in foreign affairs.

Ian Bush is a morning drive anchor at KYW Newsradio. In his two decades at the station, he’s been the recipient of several Edward R. Murrow Awards, including Excellence in Innovation for the music-and-news program ‘Month in Sound.’ In 2008, Ian was named one of national radio’s ’30 Under 30′ by Edison Media Research. (Now, sadly, he’s over 30.) Ian is a proud 2004 graduate of Villanova University.

World Affairs Council of Philadelphia
As CEO of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, Lauren is charged with connecting Philadelphia with the world. Through Lauren’s leadership, the Council works to make critical international affairs topics accessible to people of all ages, political beliefs and backgrounds through authentic, meaningful learning experiences. It also works to grow the region’s understanding of international affairs. In 2021, Lauren was named Honorary Consul of Sweden in Pennsylvania. Prior to her current roles, she was Deputy Commerce Director of International Business & Global Strategy for the City of Philadelphia.

Saint Joseph’s University
Lisa Baglione is a Professor of Political Science at Saint Joseph’s University. She has spent her career writing about and studying U.S. and Soviet or Russian relations and Russia’s transformation from communism. She has focused on superpower nuclear arms control, the development of competitive politics in Russia in the 1990s, the Chechen Wars, and Russian authoritarianism of the 2000s.

HIAS Pennsylvania
Cathryn Miller-Wilson is currently the Executive Director of HIAS Pennsylvania, which supports low-income immigrants of all backgrounds as they build new lives in the Pennsylvania community. Cathryn graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1993 and has spent her career doing social justice work: representing parents accused of abuse and neglect at Community Legal Services, Inc., representing persons with HIV/AIDS at the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania and teaching and supervising law students who represented low income persons in a variety of civil matters at both Drexel University School of Law and Villanova University School of Law.
