Honoring those who lead the way in support of immigrants and refugees:

Nelofar Asadi

a teenager, ripped from her homeland, who has never stopped using her art and her voice to bravely advocate for Afghan girls and women.

Blank Rome LLP

a stalwart pro bono partner whose attorneys and staff responded immediately to the Afghan crisis, providing representation to many Afghan clients in their asylum, humanitarian parole, and family reunification matters.

Mishkan Shalom Reconstructionist Synagogue &
St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church

RESA RUDNEY AWARD HONOREE

The inaugural Resa Rudney Award, bestowed for extraordinary community support.

Mishkan Shalom Reconstructionist Synagogue and St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church are the epitome of welcoming the stranger and showing what makes Philadelphia a welcoming community.

The Resa Rudney Award

Resa Rudney was an extraordinary woman—compassionate, devoted to family and friends, giving of herself, and admired by all who knew her. She was passionate about social causes and was always on a mission to do something that would make a difference in someone’s life. Her activism included work with Hadassah, Technion, Israel Bonds, Main Line Reform Temple, and Habitat for Humanity, where at the age of 78, she flew to Mississippi to help build houses for survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

She was a strong believer in HIAS Pennsylvania’s mission, passionate about welcoming the stranger and helping refugees to settle in Philadelphia, and relentless in getting others to help. Resa herself was honored at the 2013 Golden Door Awards.

As one refugee from Myanmar described her, “she was the light” that shared love and hope to many who had none.
