Parangkush Subedi

Parangkush Subedi was born in Bhutan and grew up in UNHCR- managed Bhutanese refugee camps in eastern Nepal. He and his family were evicted in 1993 by the Royal Government of Bhutan due to their ethnic- cleansing policy. Along with 100,000 other Bhutanese refugees his family languished for over 15 years in refugee camps in Nepal. After 15 rounds of fruitless efforts made by Nepal for repatriation of Bhutanese refugees to their home, the United States along with other countries, initiated resettlement efforts, and Parankush's family was selected in late 2008 for resettlement in the U.S.

Parangkush earned a B.S. in microbiology from Loyola College, Vijayawada, India in 2001 and an M.S. in microbiology from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 2005. This past May he graduated with a Master's in Public Health from the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, Atlanta. He worked as a research assistant, project coordinator and teacher when he was a student in India, Thailand and Atlanta, respectively. He speaks Dzongkha (Bhutanese), Nepali, Hindi, Urdu and English.
