Marina Merlin, born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia, arrived in the United State as a refugee and joined the HIAS Pennsylvania staff soon after arrival, first as a volunteer with the advisory committee, then as a staff member. During her years at HIAS Pennsylvania, she has assisted hundreds of immigrants and refugees through the immigration process and resettlement.
Ms. Merlin graduated with a civil engineering degree from St. Petersburg’s School of Engineering and Science. She has partial accreditation from the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) to represent immigrants before USCIS.
Her responsibilities at HIAS Philadelphia include managing volunteers, coordination of social services for refugees after they have been in the country for over six months and organizing workshops on acculturation.
