We are delighted to let you know that the Lautenberg Amendment has been extended through September 30, 2015. This means that religious minorities from Iran and the former Soviet Union (FSU) will again be able to apply for refugee admission to the United States under the Lautenberg program. At this time, we do not know if there will be any changes in the application process. We will share with you any information we receive from the State Department as soon as possible.
December 3, 2014The National Visa Center (NVC) has changed the requirements regarding supporting documentation submitted in immigrant visa applications. As of November 12, 2014, the NVC has begun accepting photocopies of civil documents, rather than requiring originals.
