The Double Threat of Immigration and Domestic Violence

Rosa* is an undocumented immigrant woman who is in an abusive marriage; her husband is a U.S. citizen who refuses to sponsor her for citizenship. 
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) provides pathways for immigrant victims of domestic violence - like Rosa - to stabilize their immigration statuses independent of their abusers, such as the VAWA self-petition and the U visa.

Ayo Gansallo awarded the 2017 Philadelphia Bar Foundation Award

 HIAS Pennsylvania is proud to report that HIAS Pennsylvania Senior Staff Attorney Ayo Gansallo is receiving the 2017 Philadelphia Bar Foundation Award. Ayo was selected to receive this year’s award in recognition of her years of tireless service on behalf of some of the most vulnerable members of our population – immigrants and refugees.

Board Member Judge Harold Berger Receives Lifetime Award from UPenn Law School

We are proud to announce that longtime board member, Judge Harold Berger, has been honored by the University of Pennsylvania Law School as the inaugural recipient of Penn Law School’s Lifetime Commitment award.  The award recognizes graduates “who through their lifetime of service and commitment to Penn Law have truly set a new standard of excellence.”

Honored as a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Legal Intelligencer, Judge Berger is a managing principal and member of the executive committee of Berger & Montague, P.C.
