Christina is a Refugee AmeriCorps Member to service the Preferred Community at HIAS. She was also a refugee from Burma in seeking for freedom from religious persecution. She started a new chapter of her life in the United States when their family was reunited in December, 2009. When she was in high school, she was an active member in the National Honor Society and also served as a treasurer while participating in Red Cross blood drive, and penny drive for cancer patients. She earned her Gold Medal Congressional Award in 2014 by serving her community for more than 250 hours as a volunteer. Besides participating in various community services which included interpretation for non-English speakers, funding for Burmese Youth, Christina strives to motivate the youth to excel in academics, and has served as a leader in some of the cultural activities. She works with United Communities of Southeast Philadelphia, and PA Migrant Education Program where she tutors K-12 students in afterschool program, and interprets for Burmese families. She is aspired to become a person who will take action to help the refugees and will serve the community at large.
