Summer Program for Refugee Youth Volunteer

Program: Refugee Resettlement
 
Minimum Time Requirements: 3 hours per day, 1 day per week
 
Preferred Time Commitment: 3 hours per day (morning or afternoon), 3-5 days per week
 
Brief Description: Each volunteer will be paired with a head teacher to support a class in our 4-week arts-themed summer program for elementary, middle, and high school students during the month of July. Volunteers will support the head teacher in carrying out lessons and English language development activities as well as managing student behavior. Volunteers may also be asked to provide individualized attention to students to meet particular academic or language needs. 
 
Will travel be required? Yes. This position requires travel to Northeast Philadelphia (specific location TBD).
 
Are there language needs? It is not required that volunteers speak a language other than English, but it is helpful. Our students’ languages include Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Pashto, and Turkish.
 
Will training be provided? Yes. A three-hour orientation will be provided in early June.
 
All volunteers must have PA Criminal Record, Child Abuse Clearances, and FBI Criminal Background checks completed before starting ($28 total).
