Looking for volunteers living in Northeast and South Philadelphia who would like to help connect individuals and families with neighborhood resources.
Program: Refugee Resettlement
Minimum Time Requirements: 4 continuous hours per week, three (3) months per year. Volunteers needed Monday-Friday anytime between 9am and 5pm, with Wednesday volunteers especially needed at this time.
Brief Description: Accompany refugees on public transportation in order to assist them in getting to medical and social service appointments, to apply for licenses and IDS, to shop with their welfare PA ACCESS Cards, and to open bank accounts. Includes picking up refugees from their homes in Northeast or South Philadelphia, escorting on SEPTA to their appointment, and supporting them in navigating front-desk and/or check in procedures at the given location.
Will travel be required? Yes. This position requires travel within the city of Philadelphia, primarily South and Northeast Philadelphia. Access and ability to drive a car or comfort in taking public transportation including buses required.
Are there language needs? No.
Will training be provided? No formal training is necessary but you are required to attend a Refugee Team Volunteer Orientation.
All volunteers must have PA Criminal Record, Child Abuse Clearances, and FBI Criminal Background checks completed before starting ($28 total).
Minimum educational/degree requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.
