HIAS Pennsylvania relies on the assistance of social work placed in our program for semester or year long terms to help us provide more comprehensive and in depth assistance to our clients. Here is a list of positions that HIAS Pennsylvania currently offers. Please contact your school's placement coordinator if you are interested in filling one of these roles in an upcoming placement.
All HIAS Pennsylvania volunteers and interns working directly with children must have PA Criminal Background and Child Abuse Clearances completed before starting ($10 for each).
Program: Pennsylvania Asylee Outreach Project
Brief Description: Assist the PA asylee outreach project coordinator with conducting new client assessments, providing information and referrals to area social services, advocating on behalf of clients at local government and NGO agencies, as well as providing case management and navigation to individuals transitioning to life in the United States.
Will travel be required? Yes, the position requires local travel to city and county offices accessible by public transit.
Are there language needs? French or Arabic preferred.
Will training be provided? Yes, training and supervision will be provided by the AOP Coordinator and MSW HIAS Pennsylvania staff member.
Minimum education requirements: BSW required, MSW preferred.
Program: Legal Services
Brief Description: Assist youth team legal staff with coordinating referrals to pro bono attorneys, communicating with relatives of children once the children and relatives have been reunited, providing intake at immigrant youth detention facilities and providing some case management assistance to these families.
Will travel be required? Yes. The position requires travel to Central and Northern Pennsylvania to meet with clients. Access and ability to drive a car is not required but preferred.
Are there language needs? Fluency in Spanish required.
Will training be provided? Yes, training and supervision will be provided by MSW HIAS Pennsylvania staff member.
Minimum educational/degree requirements: BSW required, MSW preferred.
