Opening Doors for New Americans since 1882
Program: Philadelphia Citizenship Action Network (P-CAN)
Minimum Time Requirements: One to two hours a week for eight weeks
Brief Description: Assist new Americans realize their dream of being naturalized citizens by helping ESL teachers who teach US citizenship classes. Assistance includes one-on-one tutoring or small group ESL and civics tutoring. Please check here for upcoming classes in different parts of the city.

Are there language needs? No
Will training be provided? Yes; all volunteer tutors will receive both ESL training and citizenship training. ESL training can be done online through The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy or volunteers can attend a three hour in person training at HIAS Pennsylvania. The citizenship training will be a one hour in person training at HIAS Pennsylvania.
Minimum educational/degree requirements: Ability to read and write English fluently
