Job Title: Immigrant Youth and Immigrant Victim Assistance Collaborative Paralegal

HIAS Pennsylvania is recognized by the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR) of the Department of Justice as a voluntary agency permitted to host immigration specialists known as accredited representatives who can provide immigration legal services. HIAS Pennsylvania is one of the largest non-profit immigration legal service providers in Pennsylvania. With a current staff of 12 attorneys and 7 accredited representatives, the organization assists low income immigrants with adjustment of status, removal defense, family unification, citizenship, and asylum. HIAS Pennsylvania prioritizes providing services to vulnerable populations including survivors of interpersonal violence and unaccompanied and abused youth.
We seek a paralegal to help support two agency initiatives: the Immigrant Youth Advocacy Project (IYAP) and the Immigrant Victim Assistance Collaborative. This position will be evenly split between these two programs. The paralegal will provide direct case support to the attorneys and accredited representatives within each project. This position will also be responsible to help provide administrative support to the IYAP. Specifically, the paralegal will assist in data entry to meet grant reporting requirements.
General Position Description
The candidate should have a college degree. Prior experience working in a legal services agency is preferred. Spanish language fluency is required. The ideal candidate will also have had prior experience working with immigrants.
Paralegal Support Services: The paralegal will provide support to the staff attorneys and accredited representatives in their direct legal representation responsibilities. Services will include communicating with clients to ensure timely and effective information sharing regarding upcoming appointments, deadlines and other individual aspects of client cases. The paralegal will also assist in completing certain forms under the direct supervision of the designated attorney or accredited representative including work authorization renewals, etc.
Administrative: The paralegal will be responsible for maintaining records and updating databases to facilitate reporting to grantors.
