Dear Friends and Colleagues:
After an amazing, inspiring and challenging 18 years as Executive Director of HIAS Pennsylvania, I have decided it is time to “pass the torch” to a new leader. I plan to transition out of the position of Executive Director of HIAS Pennsylvania on October 31, 2016, but will remain involved on some special projects at the organization afterwards. From now until then I will continue to work hard to nurture and lead the organization.
During my time at HIAS PA I have witnessed the growth of immigrant and refugee led organizations which will shape advocacy for years to come. I have been able to participate in the transformation of HIAS Pennsylvania into an organization that provides refugee resettlement for new, diverse refugee populations, recently adding a component of teaching English as a Second Language to Philadelphia public school children. I have seen the development of our legal team with attorneys who are capable of arguing cases in our federal courts (often in partnership with pro bono collaborators). HIAS PA has grown its immigrant youth advocacy work and is now the largest provider of free immigration services to unaccompanied, abused and neglected minors, not to mention being a major provider of citizenship assistance. Our focus on providing services to the most vulnerable, including survivors of torture and victims of violence in the U.S. or abroad has been truly rewarding. The work has instilled in me an unwavering commitment to immigrants and refugees which I will carry forward.
And all along this path, I have been extremely lucky to work with brilliant and dedicated colleagues on my staff and in the immigration and refugee resettlement field, and have been supported by an equally committed Board of Directors.
Thank you all for a wonderful 18 years,
