Opening Doors for New Americans since 1882
HIAS Pennsylvania mourns the senseless church murders of nine members of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina. As an organization that represents and resettles individuals fleeing from religious, ethnic, racial, political violence and persecution, we are especially disturbed when such violence happens in our own country. While perpetrated by one individual, this act occurs in a culture that still struggles with gun violence, inequality and racial prejudice. HIAS PA will continue to work with others for fairness, tolerance and diversity. We send our deepest sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones.
