Opening Doors for New Americans since 1882
James White currently works as an Asylee Navigator in the Asylee Outreach Project, helping asylees seeking to adjust, both in legal and social senses, to living in the United States. He attended the University of Washington, where he studied Biochemistry, participated in cancer research, and lead the UW Kung Fu Club. He also pursued different opportunities for community service in the hospital, soup kitchen, and classroom. During summers he worked at a tutoring center specialized towards children with autism and dyslexia. Currently, he is embarked on a year of service commitment with the Augustinian Volunteer Corps, which led to him being placed in his current role at HIAS Pennsylvania. In addition to working at HIAS, James also participates in prison ministry and volunteers at a free medical clinic. James is an aspiring medical student, and hopes that by expanding his horizons and working with people from different walks of life, he would be better equipped to practice in a holistic and effective way.
