Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with HIAS Pennsylvania!
It is through the dedicated time and energy of our volunteers and volunteer groups that HIAS Pennsylvania is able to help more than 3,000 immigrants and refugees every year.
Whether you are interested in collecting household goods and furniture for the new homes of arriving refugee families or in serving as a pro bono attorney for an immigrant youth, there is a place for you to help at HIAS Pennsylvania.
Volunteer opportunities at HIAS Pennsylvania, include:
Legal
Refugee Resettlement
- Mentor refugee families or individuals
- Provide interpretation and translation services, specifically for Nepalese, Burmese, Tigrinya, Arabic
- Tutor refugees in basic English skills
- Help refugees write resumes and prepare for job interviews
- Contact potential employers on behalf of refugees
- Assist HIAS Pennsylvania staff with cultural orientation
- Collect and deliver donated furniture and household goods
Administrative
- Become a HIAS Pennsylvania Board Member; contact Judi Bernstein-Baker
- Provide basic office support
- Assist with fundraising and event planning

We require all volunteers to be respectful and non-judgmental of all cultures and races. Volunteers working directly with refugee families are asked to complete child-abuse and criminal-history clearances.
