Amy Eckendorf currently works as a Case Manager on the Refugee Resettlement Team and Coordinates the Preferred Communities program. A graduate of a liberal arts college in Western New York, Amy studied Intercultural Studies and Sociology. After completing her education, she served a term with AmeriCorps in Buffalo, NY as a case manager at a post- refugee resettlement agency. She relocated to Philadelphia to work at a homeless shelter for youth. She initially got connect to HIAS PA with the intention of volunteering with the Resettlement Team. Instead, she ended up finding a more permanent place. In her current role, Amy welcomes and supports newly arrived refugees during their first few months in the United States. She also provides longer term intensive case management to individuals who have particularly challenging physical, mental health or social barriers to achieving self sufficiency.
